Our dear friend, Bella (Dolly Goolsby) is on the go again, this time in France. She has graciously allowed us to republish her travel blogs. Enjoy!
It has been several days since I have been able to write, due to Internet access being non-existing, for most of the time. I will try to make up for lost time.
We are now in Paris, but had a very lovely cruise up the Seine over the weekend. We stopped at Giverny, and visited the home and gardens of Claude Monet, the impressionist painter. Due to the late spring here, many of the flowers were not blooming yet, but it was still a lovely visit.
On the way back to the boat, we got to stop in the village of Vernon, and go to the farmers market. Such beautiful vegetables, cheeses, eggs. It was my kind of fun afternoon.
On Sunday, the weather suddenly turned warm. We were able to be on the sun deck and watch the French countryside go by…many people were out in their yards, the summer homes along the river were being opened and used.
After lunch, we reached the confluence of the Seine and the Oise rivers. We got a bus trip to the village of Auvers sur Oise, where Vincent Van Gogh spent the last 70 days of his life.
Sometime during the night, our ship arrived in Paris, where we are now docked. We had a bus tour of Paris yesterday, then have had a lot of free time to explore on our own. Tomorrow we have to leave the ship. But Frank and I, Ron and Jo, will go to an apartment near Notre Dame for the next 6 days.
This has been a great trip. I have learned a lot, and am now ready to discover more of Paris on our own.
Until next time,
Au revoir
